The name Scouting for Girls is a play on words on the renowned Scouting for Boys handbook, first published in 1908 for the Scouts, which provides boys instructions on good citizenship. Continuing with the theme, the SFG fan club is known as the 'Wolfcubs' and is based on the Dennis The Menace fanclub.
Since 2005 the band has built-up a large internet based audience through their MySpace website together with regular chart success on the IntoMusic and Pulse Rated unsigned band websites. They have also played various London venues, including the The Dublin Castle (Camden), the Shepherd's Bush Empire, The Borderline (Charing Cross Road), The Water Rats (King's Cross) and Turnmill's (Farringdon).
Not only have they performed at these popular venues, but they have also been fortunate enough to record a live session for BBC Radio One, a special session for Dermot O'Leary on BBC Radio Two, frequent feature on Xfm London with DJ Marsha and they've recorded material for Gcap Media who own Capital 95.8, Classic FM, Choice FM, Core, Planet Rock, Xfm and other regional radio stations throughout the United Kingdom.
On February 14, 2007, Scouting for Girls were signed to Epic UK (a division of Sony BMG) and they have recently been recording material for an album, released in September 2007. Their first EP single, "It's Not About You", was released on June 25, 2007.
